SEAT

The Spanish SEAT was founded in 1950 as a state-owned company. The letters stand for Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo. From 1957 to 1986, SEAT built Fiats under license and outside Spain they were also often sold as Fiat. At the end of 1982, the relationship between SEAT and Fiat came to an end.

In 1983, SEAT appeared on the market in the Netherlands as a separate brand. SEAT’s first own model was the 1984 Ibiza, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. SEAT also displayed the Porsche name, which had contributed to the development of the engine in the Ibiza.

SEAT was already more than half taken over by Volkswagen in 1986 and since 1990 SEAT has been a full member of the Volkswagen Group.
