Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz was created in 1926 with the merger of Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (Gottlieb Daimler) and Benz & Cie. (Carl Benz). Benz built the world’s first car, the Patent Motorwagen, in 1885. Daimler has been building cars since 1886 and from 1903 onwards under the name Mercedes, after the name of the daughter of one of Daimler’s first major customers.

Mercedes-Benz logo

The logo with the three-pointed star has been the logo of Mercedes since 1909. The three points of the star would refer to the fact that founder Gottlieb Daimler wanted to build engines for use on land, at sea and in the air. After the merger with Benz into Daimler-Benz AG, cars were produced under the Mercedes-Benz brand name and the logo was retained. Today, the brand is part of Daimler AG and the owner of Smart.

Mercedes-Benz Formula 1

Mercedes-Benz has dominated Formula 1 in recent years. This is not the first time, because in the second half of the 1930s the brand also dominated the Grand Prix ‘. In 1934, the W25 race car was a kilo too heavy, and the team decided to lighten the car by removing the white paint – the German racing color. The blank aluminum car won the race and thus the name Silberpfeile was born. After the Second World War, the Silver Arrows also won many victories. Until 1955 one example crashed and ended up in the public, killing about a hundred people. Mercedes-Benz officially withdrew from racing. Forty years later the brand returned to Formula 1 with McLaren and since 2012 with extraordinary force majeure with a factory team.
