German Car Brands List, History, Logo, Reliability

The German car brands is considered to be of a high level of standards, in generally recognized quality and reliability, so no one should be surprised by the fact that the car brand from Germany occupies one of the leading positions on the world market. Each year, the automaker from this country produces more than 10 million vehicles at its factories and is distributed around the world.

German Car Brands

The modern German car is an example to other manufacturers, mainly because of the carefully selected materials and the high level of workmanship. In addition, Germany pays special attention to quality control in production, as well as the quality of the final product, not only at domestic companies, but also abroad.

Vehicles from Germany can be divided into several sectors, and the first are cars of the so-called “folk” brand, which differ in their relatively affordable price tags (although there are very expensive options between them). But Germany has a very strong premium car segment. They are “role models” for all other auto manufacturers and embody a large number of high-tech achievements from local specialists.

German Car Brands History

The history of the German auto industry begins in 1861, when designer Nikolaus August Otto created the world’s first internal combustion engine – it was a two-stroke atmospheric unit with a cylinder set vertically and ignition with an open flame. But the inventors didn’t stop there, in 1876 presented a more sophisticated four-step installation.

The world’s first car was published in 1885, and its “mother” was German engineer Karl Benz, who attached a single-cylinder engine to a three-wheeled carriage, producing only one horsepower. Such characteristics allow it to accelerate up to 16 km / h, but due to its design features, this vehicle is always deaf.

In the future, Benz developed and perfected his ideas, and already in 1900 he became the owner of the world’s first car manufacturing plant. Along with him, another German magician Gottlieb Daimler was involved in the design of a self-propelled “train” – he was the first to equip a four-wheeled car with an engine with four “pots”.

In 1926, the companies created by Benz and Daimler merged, marking the birth of the Mercedes brand. The first to try this name was a small car with a two-seater sedan, front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, driven by a special gearbox.

But not only did Benz and Daimler develop the automotive industry, together with them the engineer and inventor August Horch, who in 1909 formed the Horch company, but later abandoned it to create a new brand – Audi, involved in this business. The first car with this name appeared in 1910.

In 1917, on the outskirts of Munich, another company was “born”, the name every schoolchild knows today – Bayerisch Motoren Werke AG (BMW). It was created through the merger of two small businesses founded by engineers Gustav Otto and Karl Rapp.

The difficult times in the history of the German auto industry began in the 1920s and 1930s, when the Nazis came to power. Although they provide serious support to auto manufacturers, they are more focused on producing military equipment.

But the civil sector has not ruled out either – in 1933 Hitler ordered to design a “real people’s car” accessible to a large segment of the population, and a few years later the production of the legendary Volkswagen Beetle (aka “Beetle”) was launched.

In the 50’s and 60’s, the German auto industry experienced the aftermath of the Second World War, which is why it lost control of American, Italian and British companies. However, this recession did not last long, and in the 70-80s, the German industrial storm began, and representatives of the Big Three quickly established themselves as world leaders in car production.

In the modern world, the German car manufacturer has established itself in the global market on all continents, offering a wide variety of models, both “really popular” and downright luxury.

Horch is a German company founded in 1899. It was founded by a former Benz company employee, August Horch. He managed to get the support of very wealthy investors, and made his own company. A year after the founding of the company, the first Horch machine was produced. Equipped with a two-cylinder engine, which is front-mounted and relatively quiet, rear wheel drive is carried out using a leather belt. The gearbox had several innovations for that time. This is how highly successful brands got started later.

The chairman of the company, although he devoted most of his time to development, did not forget the financial component, which continued to raise capital.

In 1906, a model of this brand took part in a successful auto show, and one very chic model with expensive decorations was purchased by the sultan from the island of Java. In the same year, a sports car was built, which took part in sports competitions, but did not achieve success, but this led to serious conflicts within the company. As a result, the organizers of the Horch company had to leave the company, despite receiving very little compensation.

However, Horch did not grieve for long about this and literally within a month set up a new company, August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH. However, he was immediately sued to change the company name, as representatives of the previous company considered him a very serious competitor.

Horch officially closed down in 1945.

MAN started in 1840 with an ordinary factory, but the first cars of this brand will appear in 75 years. Until then, the company will develop a diesel engine and build a truck manufacturing plant. In 1915, truck production will be launched. In 1919, the brand’s first garbage collection vehicle will appear.

A year later, the company merged with the Gutehoffnungshütte company and started active sales of MAN trucks.

In 1921 another model of the MAN type 3Zc truck was produced. At the same time, the company succeeded in developing a leveling device for agriculture.

Further development of the company would lead to great success in 1925. It was built for the first time a five-ton truck with gimbal drive. In general, this model has many new technological solutions, which are then used for a long time.

Over the next several years, the company continued to improve the technical characteristics of trucks.

In 1939, the production of the first four-wheel drive truck was launched. With the outbreak of war, factories were stopped and production resumed after it ended.

The factory started operating at full capacity only in 1951, after launching the first production truck with a turbocharging system. In the following years, the company expanded production and opened several factories in Germany.

In 1965, the company made the 850 and 780 series trucks to commemorate anniversaries.

In the 70s, the company concluded several successful deals to supply second-generation buses and trucks to the Bundeswehr.

In 1980 the company won the Truck of the Year prize.

In 1992, a new model of the SLW 2000 truck was introduced, as well as a comfortable city bus.

During the following years, the company continued to grow, receiving awards in various fields of the automotive industry.

In 2007, the company achieved another world success. The MAN truck wins the Dakar Rally.

Since 2013, a series of new models of the MAN TGX, TGS, TGM, TGL have been presented.

The Neoplan trademark is the property of NEOMAN Bus, a subsidiary of MAN AG. This brand appeared in 1935. At that time, a bus company was opened in Stuttgart. It was founded by Gottlob Auwerter. Bus technology is based on truck chassis. However, this was the norm for that period. With the onset of hostilities, most of the company’s staff were mobilized. Factory capacity is used to repair aircraft that have suffered from combat.

Auverters were able to resume bus production only after hostilities ended. Following the example of competitors from Kassbohre, Auwerter succeeded in creating a bus with a monocoque body. In 1953, this model was put into streaming production. It was then that he became known as Neoplan. This name translates as “new project” or “new plan”. Since 1957, air suspensions have been installed on factory products. As a result, equipment comfort is significantly increased.

In 1960, the company with the then name “Gottlob Auwarter GmbH & Co” became an important player in the market for specialized airport bus technology. The company produces articulated buses with a very low floor – 35 cm. In 1961, they developed a bus model with extra-large cab windows, which significantly improved passenger visibility. In 1964, production of equipment for touring trips began. It is a double decker bus called the Do-Bus.

In 1974 the company started exporting. The first car under the Neoplan brand was shipped to Ghana. However, they soon fell in love in America, Asia and Europe.

In 2001, MAN AG acquired Gottlob Auwarter. The company received a name that corresponds to the trademark – Neoplan. Even after the change of ownership, the brand has not lost its authority and recognition worldwide. The production of bus equipment continues, its various models are expanded. 2007 was marked by the signing of the most important and biggest contract for Neoplan. According to the regulations, the company supplies 400 units of bus vehicles for use as urban transportation in Dubai. Currently the factory employs more than 1,300 people.

Trabant acts as a German manufacturer in the part of Soviet-controlled Germany. The city of Zwickau is considered the headquarters of the brand. The date of appearance of the product under the Trabant brand is 1957.

This brand logo is an emblem in the form of the letter “S”. The decoding of the word “trabant” which is literally translated from German means “satellite” or “everywhere”. It was decided to give the cars of the brand this name in honor of the launch of the first near-earth satellite, which was carried out in the USSR.

The Trabant brand specializes in the production of mini compact cars in a narrow range. The hallmark of this product is an all-plastic body made of heavy-duty “Duroplast” material, which undergoes absolutely no corrosion.

The layout of the brand’s product bodywork is represented by a sedan and station wagon, as well as an army version without a roof and doors called “Trump”. Trabant vehicles are legendary products. They had the widest popularity and good technical characteristics at that time, differing in low cost.

After the fall of the Soviet regime in Germany, in 1991 the mass production of cars of this brand was stopped. However, to date, there have been attempts by several investors to revive the brand by embodying the main ideas of Trabant technology and accessibility in concept products.

Wartburg is a German brand. The foundation of the brand was recorded in 1896. The headquarters of the manufacturer is located in Eisenach, Germany. The right to use the mark belongs to Opel for a period of time.

The Wartburg brand logo is the stylish lettering of the brand name, made in chrome or gold. It is believed that the brand got its name from the name of an ancient castle located near the factory assembly facility.

The manufacturer’s lineup includes a variety of body modifications. The product list includes roadsters, sedans, pickups, station wagons. The main characteristics are the solid body structure and technical perfection of the model chassis. The price at the same time remains affordable for various consumers. The weak point in terms of design is the use of an outdated two-stroke engine with our own design water and air cooler. The latest models were equipped with Volkswagen engines, but this decision did not save the company from bankruptcy.

After the end of the influence of the Soviet Union in German-controlled parts in 1991, it was decided to stop production of cars of this brand.

In the German city of Zwickau there is a car factory, which before the outbreak of the war belonged to the legendary brand Horch, and later Audi. Both are part of Auto Union. However, after the war ended and with the introduction of the GDR, the company was nationalized. It was renamed Auto-Werke Zwickau (AWZ). Until 1955, the factory did not have its own car model. However, the designers worked on it. The result of these efforts was the creation of a front-wheel drive car model with a unique plastic body. The car was named AWZ P70. Later it was renamed, and became the P-600 model. The car has an apt name – Trabant, which translates as satellite. So, the car was named in honor of the Soviet Union’s launch of the first artificial satellite.

The plastic used to make the car is unusual, but very durable. It is called Duroplast. It is produced from waste from the woodworking industry. The car is a sedan with two doors. A little later, the developer made a station wagon, as well as a light version without a roof and doors. This happened in 1979. This modification became known as the Tramp. He found wide application in the military.

The car became a legend and symbol of the GDR. He looks really ugly. However, it weighs only 620 kg. This makes it possible to install an unpretentious two-cylinder unit, which has a water cooling system. Even with such a motorbike, the car drove up to the first “hundred” in 21 seconds. Corrosion resistance is a big advantage. The car’s suspension is very strong because it was originally built for bad road surfaces.

Car production lasted almost 30 years. In 1963, the car was modernized. They started installing a slightly stronger power plant on top of it. This made it possible to compete with legendary mass European cars. The car is available, so many beginners can buy it. There were so many orders for cars that the factory barely had time to produce them.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Zwickau factory was acquired by Volkswagen. It happened in 1989. However, plastic machines have been around for a long time. Their production ended in the spring of 1991. Thus, the AWZ brand disappeared along with the socialist GDR state.

Barkas is an East German manufacturer. 1961 is considered the date of the founding of automobile production. The city of Chemnitz is considered the headquarters of the manufacturer.

The brand logo is a stylized “B” letter drawn in a circle with long, elongated stripes reminiscent of a blade.

The main specialty of this brand is the production of general-made minibuses, vans and light trucks. Such a model is an excellent commercial solution and is in great demand. Minibuses and vans of this brand are widely used in Germany. Not infrequently, they are used as special vehicles for various emergency response services, such as medical, fire, or police.

The company’s cars are distinguished by simplicity and durability of design, good maintenance. In the last years of the brand’s existence, licensed four-stroke engines from Volkswagen were installed on products of the brand.

A large number of brand cars entered the territory of the former Soviet Union. In its configuration, one can find machines from “Zhiguli”.

In 1991, the Barkas brand ceased to exist. The reason for the elimination of production is the bankruptcy of the manufacturer.

The Bitter company was organized by Erich Bitter, who was previously involved in cycling and later auto racing. However, he was interested in making his own car. At the same time, he did not have the necessary experience or education to set up car manufacturing.

The beginning of the company’s activity was associated with the import of Intermeccanica cars from Italy. Parts for the Abarth engine were also shipped. Beter also has its own workshop for spare parts manufacturing.

Hearing about the traditionally poor build quality of Intermeccanica cars, Beater increasingly thought of building his own car that was just as fast but more reliable. Erich also didn’t like the design of the Italian model. He wanted to combine Italian design with German qualities. As a result, machines were made from several Intermeccanica models.

The prototype of the Italian brand Frua was chosen as the body of the future car. The power unit and chassis were borrowed from the Opel Diplomat, which was created in 1969, but did not go to conveyor based on management decisions. But the models are attractive to buyers. And Bitter decided to take advantage of this. This development was demonstrated at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1973. A 230 hp eight-cylinder unit was installed in the car. The squat body is slightly shaped like Maserati Ghibi and Indy.

The CD Bitter is a very fast but expensive machine. He is one of those machines with character. The appearance of the car is also very aggressive, which is facilitated by the hidden headlamps and sharp body elements. The car was manufactured by the Stuttgart Baur company. He specializes in the production of concept cars and prototypes. When choosing a company, the main criterion is the highest quality of work.

Assembly of the CD Bitter engine in Stuttgart was carried out until 1979. For the entire production period, 395 copies of this car model were made. Most of them were not lost, but were kept by private car enthusiasts.

In the late 1980s, Bitter faced a crisis. He began looking for partners to supply bodies for car manufacturing. As a result, a solution was found, and the company was established for a short time. A model based on Opel Omega has been produced.

But the deteriorating situation forced the completion of production.

The Bremen car company named Borgward was founded in 1929 by Karl Borgward. This was preceded by the creation of a cargo tricycle, similar to a bicycle equipped with a cargo box. These unsightly cars have gained popularity due to their low cost, lack of taxes and the need to own the right to drive. Borgward even managed to sign a contract with the postal service, and his technique was used by postmen.

The designer’s first car was a three-wheeled model called the Blitzkarren. It worked quite well, because the score was low too. At the same time, it was a small delivery van.

In 1929, Borgward became CEO of Hansa Lloyd AG. For that, he created a model named Hansa Konsul. In 1937, he released the Hansa Borgward 2000, which two years later became known only as Borgward 2000. Subsequently, the machine was modernized and became known as the 2300.This machine remained on the assembly line until 1942. At the end of hostilities, buyers saw the Borgward Hansa 1500.

In 1954, the most common models produced by German companies saw the light. The car is named Borgward Isabella. No wonder he was on the conveyor until the last day of the brand’s existence. In 1959, the air suspension for passenger cars was created, and was immediately applied to the Borgward P100 model.

The company also produces sports models. They are equipped with a 1500 cc 16-valve unit. They were successful in Formula Two. Borgward also developed an automatic transmission. However, it is increasingly difficult for the company to deal with giants like VW or Opel. Borgward has four independent companies, which consume a lot of the budget. The exchange of parts and engine development is also difficult. The car manufacturer’s quality problems also started.

The company ceased operations in 1961. He was declared bankrupt. Even though the assets have been fully returned to the creditors. The technical equipment on which the P100 car was produced, as well as the Borgward Isabella, was sold to Mexico. Borgward died two years after bankruptcy. In 1967, car production began in Mexico, which lasted until 1970.

In 1903, Heinrich Büsing’s Truck, Bus and Special Machinery Factory was founded. The last one is a foundry engineer. But at the beginning of the 20th century, he created the first car – the 10-seater bus. Then, in 1903, a 2.5-ton truck with wooden wheels appeared. During the war, the company carried out many military orders. After studying machine production in America in 1922, the company’s entire production process was reorganized. In 1923, the successful 3-axle truck was created, which became one of the first vehicles on the planet. The company founder died in 1929 and his son took over the business.

The economic crisis began, many companies are experiencing difficulties. As a result, Bussing acquired Komnick and Mannesmann Mulag. Also, patents for trucks from these companies were awarded to him.

An important event occurred in 1931, when the company took over the metropolitan company NAG, which also produced automotive equipment. Since then, the company has been named Bussing-NAG. In the first year of existence, this new company presented a dozen car models, which were equipped with various power plants. Subsequently, the company started a fruitful cooperation with the Kerting company. It is from the latter that the new 4 or 6 cylinder motorcycles come.

The management of the newly formed company wanted as quickly as possible to capture the largest possible segment of the automotive market, first in Germany and then in Europe. This explains the number of car models produced. The company produces cars, buses and trucks with various carrying capacities. The total mass of the latter is up to 40 tonnes. The design potential of the company is enormous. Bussing NAG has created a variety of chassis, propulsion and drivetrain designs. The corporation also uses gas power units in its models, as well as other specialized devices and inventions.

During the war period, the company produced 4.5 tonnes of trucks, as well as armored personnel carriers with half-track drive. Immediately after the end of hostilities, a five tonne 5000S truck appeared. In the early 50’s, cars under the NAG brand were no longer in production, and the company received its name before the merger – Bussing.

The DKW brand from Germany dates back to 1916. The company was founded by a Danish engineer Jorgen Rasmussen, who developed a steam engine for a car. The project was financed by German authorities. However, at the end of the First World War, this project came to a halt due to decreased interest in it. The company bought the rights to produce a 0.25 hp 18 cc motorbike. This small power station is now installed on the bicycle. This decision became too successful. Only in 1921, 10 thousand units of such machines were sold. Later, the engine was modernized, and began to produce 1 hp.

1922 marked the production of the brand’s first motorcycle. In 1925, a very successful model E206 with a 206 cc engine was developed, which cost a lot less than competitors. In 1928, the Luxus 200 model with 198 cc units entered the flow. The highlight of the model line is the Super Sport 600 with a water-cooled dual cylinder unit. In 1932, rights were acquired from the Deutz company for the cylinder blowing loop method for two stroke engines. In 1939, the most common motorcycle, the RT 125, used by the Wehrmacht, was launched.

The company also started producing engines. In 1931, he first implemented front axle drive. All machines are equipped with a two stroke unit. Their bodies are made entirely of wood. There is also a larger model that has rear axle drive, but the motor is still two stroke. In 1939, a three-cylinder model was created, which entered the conveyor only after the end of the war.

In 1928, the company became the leader in the manufacture of motorcycle gear on the planet. At the same time, the acquisition of the Audi plant in the city of Zwickau was carried out. During the depression, however, the company found itself in a difficult position. Therefore, a plan was developed to merge Audi and DKW into Auto Union AG. This also includes the Horch and Wanderer brands. The logo has taught the four-ring brand.

After the war, the company, which had originally appeared in the GDR and was under nationalization, was registered with the FRG. Production of cars and motorbikes was restored. And it’s gaining momentum every year. In 1966, the DKW brand ceased to exist. All of its production facilities are part of the German auto giant, Volkswagen.

Glas of Germany was founded in 1895. However, he was involved in the manufacture of agricultural machinery, which was of great interest. During the war years, weapons production needed to be redesigned. It wasn’t until 1950 that the company started working on manufacturing its own production scooters. The owner was inspired to take this step by visiting Verona, Italy, where streets are lined with similar equipment. Made in 1951, the Goggo scooter was very successful and commercially successful. The company has become one of the leaders in two-wheeler manufacturing in the state.

In 1952, work on his own car began. However, the nation’s welfare is growing and needs to be prepared for the production of more respectable equipment. In 1954, the first prototype was built. As a result, in 1955, sales of a car with the funny name Goggomobil began. He has a two cylinder motorcycle power unit. Thanks to this, the car can be used by anyone who has a SIM to ride a motorbike. The car quickly became popular. After all, the price is like a motorbike and all the equipment. At the same time, it has a flow rate of 4.4 liters.

This model has had a brilliant sports career, having received dozens of gold and silver trophies in competitions in Austria and other countries. In 1956, van production on small car chassis began. In 1957, it was decided to build a car that would suit Germans who no longer wanted to drive a micro car. The production model T600, equipped with a 600 cc two-cylinder unit, was launched. see The car had interior heating, which at that time was rare even for high-end cars. Cars began to be shipped even to the United States. Production commences in Australia.

In 1959, the coupe and station wagon versions were presented. In 1961, a new model was developed which was called the S1004. It was equipped with a 1000 cc 42 hp engine. Since 1962, the company has provided a one-year warranty for its engines. The following year, a version behind the two-door sedan appeared. In 1964, the sport production 1300GT was launched. The company entered all new engine classes. There is even a model in the Grand Tourismo class. In 1966, after experiencing serious financial difficulties, the company was acquired by the BMW Corporation.

The German Goliath car brand was founded in 1928. However, he is part of the Borgward company. The production facility and company office are located in Bremen. Goliath started with the manufacture of three-wheeled trucks, which were previously produced under the Borgward car brand. However, after three years, the first passenger car was developed, which was called the Pioner. It was also built on a tricycle foundation.

The outbreak of hostilities stopped all car-building work. However, once it was finished, the engineers continued to work and direct their efforts to make four-wheeled cars. The new model is called the GP 700 and is equipped with 700 cc two-cylinder power. Very economical and remembered for the first time in the history of the automotive industry, the fuel injection technology developed by Bosch was applied to cars launched in a series. Also, the front wheel drive which was rare for that period was installed in the car. There is also a sports version of this car which is called the GP 700 Sport. He has a body of duralumin.

A year later, another version of this car with a sedan-type body, as well as an injection power plant, came into view. The next model was developed in 1955, named the GP 900E. The car is also equipped with a power injection unit whose volume reaches 900 cm3. Thanks to new technology, it was possible to remove 40 hp from such a volume. However, after a while, a more traditional carburetor version of the car with the 900V GP index appeared.

In 1957 the production model under the name Goliath 1100 was launched which was equipped with a four-stroke, 4-cylinder boxer power unit. The volume of this engine reaches 1,100 cc. That’s why this model was named.

It should be noted that the company is also engaged in the production of trucks. From 1949 to 1961 four lines of truck models were made: GD750, Dreirad, GV800, Express.

However, the company started having some difficulties. One year later, Goliath 1100 was marketed under the Hansa brand. Two years later, the Borgward group of companies no longer exists. As a result, cars under the Goliath brand were no longer in production and became part of automotive history.

The Hansa car manufacturer was founded in 1905. Its founders were Robert Olmers and August Sporkhorst. The company’s first car modeled after the French Stimula. Additionally, NAG cars are manufactured at company facilities for the company of the same name. The model described has a single-cylinder power plant from the De-Dion company with a volume of 750 and 1000 cc. Installation of the Fafnir 1400 cc unit also began. A few moments later, the company’s own power unit appeared. Strength reaches 14 hp.

The next model called Telegram is very popular among buyers. It was equipped with a 1500 cc 4 cylinder unit which produced 18 hp. The 4 speed gearbox is coupled with a motor. The car has an open body. This suspension is based on semi elliptical leaf springs.

In 1910, a license was obtained to build RAF vehicles. The development of the company was very fast. In 1913, the Westfalia company was acquired. In 1914, the two automotive companies merged into one Hansa-Lloyd. As a result, they were located in the cities of Bjelfield, Varel and Bremen.

However, even though the company merged, the cars were produced under the name Hansa. They are equipped with a power plant from 1500 to 3800 cm3. These high-quality and reliable cars always have their customers.

In 1920, the German car market was divided among the largest manufacturers. Hansa-Lloyd, together with NAG and Brennabor, have organized the auto manufacturers union.

During the 20-30s, the company produced comfortable Treff-As and Trumpf-As executive cars. They are equipped with 4100 and 4500 cubic meters of power plants. see developed yourself. In addition, the first model is equipped with the first 8-cylinder unit in the state with a volume of 4600 or 5200 cm3.

In 1929, Hansa-Lloyd was acquired by Borgward-Goliath. As part of the corporation, the Consul line of machines is included in the series. Subsequently, this line was expanded due to small machines with an index of 1100 and 1700. In 1933, the production of a simple two-cylinder model was made, which was on the conveyor for 1 year.
The company’s most recent models are 2000 and 3500. In 1939, all the company’s cars began production under the Borgward brand.

The German auto company Lloyd is the successor to Namag, which is organized by one of the leading shipping companies, Lloyd. In the early years of its operation, the company was engaged in the development and manufacture of electric vehicles. Then he directed his business to the manufacture and production of trucks and cars. The company’s products are of high quality and reliability. And the company’s reputation is at its best. However, apart from these critical aspects, car sales are not enough to keep the company running. This becomes unprofitable, and management must find a way out.

This is a merger with the Hansa company. As a result, the brand continues to exist. The company produced trucks for military purposes during the First World War. The machine was named Hansa-Lloyd. True, the partnership was not very successful either. As a result, the relationship between the two companies lasted only until 1921. In the late 1920’s, Lloyd and Hansa were completely broke. As a result, both of them were acquired by the successful Borgward company. As a result, at the time of the outbreak of hostilities in World War II, only the electric truck and a mini car, under the name Lloyd, remained on the production line.

In 1949, the parent company began production of small cars under the Lloyd brand. It is the LP300. The car has a wooden cloth structure, which significantly reduces its cost. This is what post-war German consumers need. However, in 1954, this design was replaced with an all-metal one. Meanwhile, the model design did not undergo significant changes.

In 1955, under this brand, the production of small minibuses with a two-stroke power unit began. This was called the LT 600. The machine was a direct competitor to the highly successful Guttbrot model in the market.

In 1959, the first post-war four-cylinder car appeared, which was named Arabella. The motor has a volume of 900 cc. and capable of producing 45 hp. The car has a coupe body, which makes it quite light. As a result, he can accelerate well to a speed of 130 km / hour. However, in 1960, complaints began to persist with this model. Borgward went bankrupt in 1963. Lloyd’s brand disappeared.

German multi-function company Multicar was founded in 1920, but under a different name – ADE Works. Initially, he was involved in the manufacture of clutches, trailers and agricultural vehicles. At the end of World War II hostilities, the company was renamed Geratebau Waltershausen. However, less than two years later, the company again received a new name – VEB Fahrzeugwerk Waltershausen. The company operated with it until 1991, when it was privatized.

In 1956, the production of karts with a diesel unit called Semut Diesel was established at the company’s facilities. In 1958, the first car appeared, which went on sale under the trademark Multicar. They call it M21. Until 1964, the company succeeded in producing more than 14 thousand first generation cars. But management decided to start production of the second generation car – M22. It was produced for another decade. Interestingly, in 1980 more than 70 percent of the cars produced by this company were exported. They were also sent to socialist camp countries. After all, the factory was located in the GDR.

In 1974, a two-ton truck was developed. The taxi, instead of one, has acquired two seats: for the driver and the passenger. He lay down, freeing up access to the power unit. A more advanced diesel unit with a volume of 2000 cm3 is installed in this model, which can produce 45 hp of power. This car has a payload of up to 2 tons. Instead of the previous 23 km / hr, the top speed rose to 50.

After the aforementioned privatization in 1991, the company was given a new name – Hako-Werke GmbH. Effective management of the company’s management allows it to develop actively, bringing a decent profit. More and more progressive cars are being developed regularly and put into streaming production. In 2001, the company developers presented to the public a new series of machines called Multicar Fumo. In 2004, the collaboration with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann was finalized with a special-purpose model for the needs of the Bundeswehr.

Multicar cars are widely used in many states for urban transportation, city building, cleaning, garbage trucks.

A car company called Neue Automobil Gesellscnaft (NAG) was formed in 1902 as a result of a merger of the companies AEG (engaged in electrical engineering), Automobil Gesel-Ischaft (AAG), and Kuhlstein Wagenbau Gesellschaft. The procedure was initiated by AEG chief Walter Ratheno. AAG has previously had experience in assembling engines with 5 hp single cylinder units.

The company’s design department works on car and truck projects at the same time. For them, 2 and 4-cylinder power plants with 10 and 20 hp were used. In addition, in the design of the manufacturer there is a tractor, whose engine power should be 50 hp. Interestingly, the company independently produces many components, even tires.

The company’s next model is the Puck car. The engine, equipped with a 1,600 cc unit, gained immense popularity and brought the company fame. On that basis, a copy of Darling’s racing was built, in which the prestigious Gothenburg Cup was won. Small cars with the K index were also produced, equipped with units of 1500 and 3300 cm3. Then, production of the powerful 50/60 HP model began. It was equipped with an 8500 cc unit.

During the First World War period, automobile production was temporarily suspended. However, when it was finished, everything was recovered. True, the efforts of several automakers to increase industry and sales need to be combined. As a result, NAG, Brennabor, Hansa, and Hansa-Lloyd joined forces. But each member maintains independence.

In 1926, the Protos company was acquired. With him, two cars were created, equipped with a 6-cylinder explosion. The cars were named NAG-Protos. In 1927 the small companies Presto and Dux joined the company, in 1928 – Voran. 6 cylinder overhead valve unit made, which has been used in brand engines for 2 years.

In 1931, the first car in Germany with an eight-cylinder V-shaped unit appeared. It was the NAG-218. In 1932, the NAG-212 engine appeared, which had front axle drive. It has independent suspension on all wheels. In 1933, after the release of several copies of the last 220 models, it was decided to concentrate on trucks. Soon NAG’s concerns were shut down completely.

The Robur company was founded in the city of Zittau in the German Democratic Republic through the nationalization of the Phanomen car factory. In 1946, the factory received a new name – VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk Phanomen Zittau, and 11 years later – VEB Robur-Werke Zittau.

In 1961, the company presented to the public in Leipzig a new 2.5 tonne engine called the Robur LO 2500. The engine was manufactured with a vortex-chamber diesel engine or petrol unit. A little later, a four-wheel drive truck for soldiers was added to the range, capable of carrying 1.8 tonnes.

After 7 years, the cars are modernizing. The visible signs are a new fake radiator grille, as well as a large bearing capacity. Now it used to be 3 tons. The petrol unit was increased to 75 hp. The diesel engine starts producing 70 hp. The drive of the brake system becomes a dual circuit. The cab is located above the power unit and can accommodate three riders.

But company cars are becoming obsolete every day. Until 1979, several promising design cars were developed. But due to financial difficulties, nothing was streamed. The engines were only slightly repaired in 1982. They began installing an efficient diesel unit producing 68 hp.

In addition to pure trucks, fire engines, medical cars and buses were also made to accommodate 26 people. Cars were sent mainly to socialist countries. They are most often used as isolated vans for transporting food, as well as conventional industrial vans for other items. There are also special modifications based on machines, such as laboratories, etc.

However, when the socialist camp collapsed, the company was in a sad state. After all, the main consumers are gone. When Germany was unified, the common European sales market became available to companies. Various attempts have been made to improve the level of product quality. The company presents the new LD 3004 model. However, it is still not a competitor to products from Western European brands.

In 1995, the company was acquired by Daimler-Benz Corporation. As a result, truck production stopped. Today the company has been redesigned and is engaged in manufacturing parts and components for the parent company.

Simson was founded in Suhl, Germany in 1856. The company founders were the Zimzon brothers. At first, he was involved in supplying weapons to the Prussian army. After 40 years, the founder’s son decided to start making bicycles at a very low price. In 1907, management decided to start manufacturing automotive technology. As a result, after a year, a car with 1,250 cc units appeared, producing 10 hp. However, the car turned out to be too weak, so it was sent for revisions. He entered the series only in 1911. The model was named Tour A 6 / 12PS. It was equipped with a 12 horsepower four-cylinder unit.

Interestingly, the car was sold through the company’s weapons network. In 1912, the car was replaced by a more powerful 18 horsepower model. At the same time, a completely new model comes out with a 2600 cc unit producing 30 hp of power. It is offered in 6 body styles.

The Typ D 14 / 45PS model, which is a 1.5 ton truck, is gaining wide popularity. Also, the ambulance is built based on its capabilities, capable of traveling up to 95 km / h, which the army desperately needs. Other models have so far been taken off the assembly line, and empty capacity has been directed towards weapon manufacturing.

In 1919, the production of the prewar model was restored, in which a forced power plant was installed. Bosch electric starters began to be installed in cars.

In 1924, a car named Simson Supra was born. The two liter, 16 valve unit with two camshafts is capable of producing 50 hp. On the basis of this model, they created a sport modification called the Typ Sport Spezial. The unit’s strength was brought to 80 hp. thanks to the two carburetors. The car became very popular among German racers. He has received many awards.

In 1925, production of cars began, which had the same power unit, but with one camshaft and 8 valves. In 1931, the first 8-cylinder model appeared, which was called the Typ A 18 / 90PS. The unit has a volume of 4600 cm3. and gives 90 hp.

In 1934-35, the firm faced difficult times, as the Zimzon brothers (they were Jewish) were tried and forced to rewrite the company to the state. In 1939 the name was changed. It wasn’t until 1955 that he started selling motorbikes and mopeds under the old Simson brand.

The German company Wanderer, founded in 1896, was successfully engaged in the manufacturing of bicycles and motorcycles. The company’s automotive career began after the well-known engineer Bugatti’s proposal to organize the production of small and light cars at a factory facility.

However, Wanderer’s management refused. As a result, the car was produced by Peugeot. In 1911, however, Wanderer began making a vehicle called the W-1 Puppchen. It was equipped with a 1200 cc 4 cylinder unit. The driver and passenger sit one by one in the cabin. Due to its compactness and maneuverability, this car began to be used as a reconnaissance vehicle.

In 1914 the car was modernized. The result was a new W-2 model. He’s been triple. The driver’s seat is at the front, but in the middle. There are two passenger seats nearby. A little later, the Wanderer W-4 engine saw the light, which was produced until 1925.

Since 1921, the company has developed and is actively using its own four-cylinder overhead valve unit. The volume is 1500 cm3. However, it was gradually increased to 2000 cm3. The motor is actively used in the W-6 – W-10 models.

In 1927, a new car under the brand, the W-11, was demonstrated at an auto show in the German capital. It is equipped with a six-cylinder unit with a volume of 2500 cm3. The 50 horsepower unit is produced under license from the Swiss company Martini. Because the cost is relatively affordable, cars are commonplace. In 1930, the W-11S sports modification was developed. It is equipped with a 3 liter unit.

In 1932 Wanderer participated in a car company merger. Auto Union combines Horch, DKW and Audi. In 1933, the production of cars with progressive bodies, as well as independent wheel suspension on the front axle under the Wanderer brand, began. The entire model line with the six-cylinder unit is laid on the conveyor. Interestingly, Ferdinand Porsche helped develop it.

Porsche also created a sports car for the company – the W-25K, which at that time had a frame, suspension and motorbike design with a progressive compressor. In 1941, the last W-23 and W-24 cars rolled off the assembly line. After 1941, the Werderer brand ceased to exist.

Surprisingly, what you see in front of you is not a luxurious and very old tarantass, but a completely modern car. In addition, when the automaker “Aaglander” started its activities in 1993 and was involved in the creation of a unique “antique” convertible. The company was founded by successful entrepreneur Ronald Beals.

To say that there are certain independent producers ABT is not entirely correct. In fact, it is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, which engages in the “pumping” model of the Audi, Seat, Škoda and Volkswagen subsidiaries. And yes, there are also racing teams bearing the ABT logo. In general, it can be said that their main activity is repairing the chassis, tuning the electronics, improving the visual and aerodynamic components of a particular car. As a separate name, the ABT brand has been known since 1896, but only contacted automakers in 1991.

Like ABT, Alpina also carries out similar activities, but from the BMW side. Founded in 1965, the brand itself existed until the end of the 60s, after which it was revived in the 70s under the leadership of the Bavarian brand with the main task of repairing and modernizing BMW cars. With regard to Alpina, it is also worth noting: they are not independent tuning studios: their job is to adjust the interior and engine of BMW cars, but not to upgrade existing cars. Simply put: when you order a BMW Alpina, you don’t come to their office in your “boomer”, and your car is built to and from the BMW facility according to the Alpina specifications you want.

From 1871 (when the Reichsteinam family brothers founded the company) to the 30s of the last century (when the name Brennabor was associated with fine bicycles) they were involved in the manufacture of only a variety of two- and three-wheeled vehicles: bicycles (adult and for children), motorbikes, strollers and even 3-wheeled cars. There have also been attempts to make complete cars – by the way, not unsuccessful. However, the Brennabor company lasted until 1945 – the complete demolition of all production along with the end of the Second World War also marked the end of other German automakers.

The German car manufacturer, Daimler, immediately positioned itself as the creator of premium cars. Their story begins in 1886, when Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz patented their vision of a car: “a three-wheeled train with a gasoline engine.” However, only 30 years later (in 1926) they merged into one company – Daimler-Benz AG. Much later they developed by buying Chrysler (1998) – the DaimlerChrysler AG concern was formed. Still later, in 2007, German brand management completely removed the “American weight” by selling 80% of the shares – a new name that came to the attention of the simpler Daimler AG. Today Daimler AG’s automotive business is one of the five largest automotive companies in the world.

The German company Gemballa is engaged in the production and tuning of automobiles. The company is registered in the city of Leonberg in Germany and its main activity is increasing the capacity of Porsche cars and producing its own cars based on Porsche cars. Since 2012, McLaren’s sports car has also been regularly used as the basis for the creation of the company’s new car. The company logo is a shield with the company name “GEMBALLA” and a globe “Gemballa Design” drawn on it.

Initially, the company limited itself to high-quality stereo installations and vehicle interior adjustments from Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. When replacing a car interior, in most cases, all parts for installation are covered with Alcantara or leather. However, Due to the fact that significant technical changes occurred during tuning with increased engine power and body changes, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche did not further prohibit leaving their trademarks on the vehicle. Since then, Gemballa has been officially recognized by the Federal Office for Motor Transport as a car manufacturer.

Gumpert Apollo

Gumpert Apollo In 2000, Roland Gumpert planned a new generation of supercars. One of the main challenges is getting a horse race-ready car to be allowed on public roads.

In 2002, another sports car company was founded in Germany, called Gumpert. Gumpert’s stance is closely tied to the Apollo project created by Roland Gumper who previously worked at Audi.

Gumpert continued the development of Apollo in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich and the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences. Their assistance includes design work, computer simulations, and aerodynamic tests. With the support and assistance of the university, a full-sized Apollo layout was created. After that, two prototypes were made.

Production of Apollo began in October 2005. The emblem of the Gumpert brand has an image of a mythological creature – the griffin.

In the late 1960s, Eberhard Schulz was in charge of managing the development of a spectacular series of Mercedes-Benz prototypes, starting with the C111 concept. This mid-engined design is intended to be the true successor of the 300SL and also has high manufacturing costs due to the introduction of new technologies and styles. Unfortunately, after the appearance of several different versions of the C111, including some with rotary engines, Mercedes-Benz decided to discontinue production. This prompted Schultz to find Isdera.

Isdera is a German small car company that produces limited edition luxury cars. The company was founded by designer Ebehard Schulz. The Isdera logo is presented in the form of a single-headed eagle flying against a blue background which is reflected in the hood ornament produced. Apart from producing homemade cars, the company also often fulfills orders from other automotive companies.

Magirus (German Magirus) is a German automobile company founded in 1866 and produces trucks, fire fighting equipment and buses. In 1936, the company was purchased by the joint-stock company Cologne Deutz AG, after which buses, trucks and fire trucks were produced under the brand name Magirus-Deutz. The company is currently called Iveco Magirus AG.

Magirus-Deutz trucks are widely used in the construction of the Baikal-Amur Main Line, in the development of new gas fields in Western Siberia and in northern Kazakhstan. Their reliability, simplicity, quality and good adaptability to severe frosts due to their use of air-cooled engines earned them fame as the best construction machines in the USSR. The brand’s logo is a silhouette of Ulm Cathedral and the letter “M”, returned to the car in 1949, a hallmark of Magirus for the following decades.

German car manufacturer. The head office and factory are located in Grafschaft, Germany. The concern was founded in 1947 and went bankrupt in 1953, but was revived in the 1990s of the XX century.

Initially, the company specialized in rebuilding the BMW 328. Since the car used a frame structure, Veritas installed its own aluminum body at the customer’s request. By 1953, up to fifty copies of the model were reworked this way. In the 1990s, a group of interested people regrouped. In 2001, the Veritas RS III was introduced with the 6 liter BMW V12 engine. The car retains many elements of the original Veritas from the 1950s.

Initially the company was engaged in the construction of rigid roofs for convertibles, which continues to be done today. Work on the company’s first roadster was completed in 1993. In 2006, the company produced three models – the Wiesmann MF 3 and MF 30 roadster and the Wiesmann MF 4 coupe. All of these models were combined with an engine and gearbox made by BMW. The company only produces about 50 cars a year, and to buy them, you need to register six months in advance. The company’s newest novelty is the Wiesmann GT MF5, which was officially presented in 2007 in Frankfurt at the IAA.

The Wiesmann logo is presented in the shape of a gecko – so the creator of the logo suggests that Wiesmann’s vehicle stays on the road as safely as the gecko on the walls and ceiling. The German company Wiesmann is engaged in the production of a limited number of luxury sports cars. The company produces no more than 50 cars each year, which is a huge seller. To buy such a car, it is necessary to register six months in advance. In February 2014, Wiesmann Manufaktur management invited factory workers to a meeting, where they announced the closure.

Smart is a very small class of German car brands manufactured by the company of the same name, which belongs to the international automotive industry company Daimler AG.

The MCC (Micro Compact Car AG) joint venture was created by the Daimler-Benz company and the Swiss watch company Swatch (later Swatch left the project) with the aim of creating a very economical, two-seater urban smart car. The Micro Compact Car was renamed Smart GmbH in September 2002.

The trademark is inscribed with a silver letter “c” with a yellow arrow on the right side. In addition, the emblem contains “smart”. The symbol is dominated by gray, black and yellow.
