New Dacia Spring 2026: price, data sheet, specifications

The Dacia Spring sits on the CMF-AEV platform and should continue to do so in the second generation. At the Alliance digital conference on January 27, 2022, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo said that “CMF-AEV is the most affordable platform in the world”. CMF-AEV is a modified version of CMF-A originally developed by Renault Group for A-segment ICE models in emerging markets.

Although the Spring came out last year, the platform is almost seven years old since it debuted on the Renault Kwid. In 2019 it was launched as an electric vehicle in China (Renault City K-ZE), rebranded as a Dacia product for the European market.

While competitors are considering LFP chemistry for entry-level positions, the next-gen Spring should stick with the lithium-ion battery pack. The current model uses a standard 27.4 kWh battery that offers a range of 230 km (143 miles). However, the next-gen Spring could at least optionally come with a more efficient and larger battery, offering a range of almost 300 km (186 miles).

The SoC’s 0-80% DC fast charge time could be less than 30 minutes, which would be a significant improvement over the current model’s 56 minutes. Other upgrades we expect to see in the city car include an 11kW three-phase onboard charger and faster 100kph (0-62mph) acceleration. Features like heated seats and automatic climate control would be welcome, even if they’re optional.

A greater focus would be on safety, which is a major concern in the EU markets and the UK. The first generation Spring received a poor 1-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. Jogger product chief Andreea Guinea had previously said Dacia is “not chasing Euro NCAP stars” and is over-specifying its cars, which could impact its key USP affordability. However, it should use a more robust body for better protection of the driver and passengers. As a reference, the current Spring scored 49% in adult occupant protection, 56% in child protection, 39% in vulnerable road user protection, and 32% in safety assist.

Europe is currently sourcing the Dacia Spring from China. If it’s successful by mid-decade, the Renault group may consider moving production to a European plant. Renault ElectriCity’s three factories in France (Douai, Maubeuge and Ruitz) will offer an annual production capacity of 400,000 electric vehicles. Dacia has plants in Romania and Morocco (Africa), but neither of these facilities have the tooling to produce a CMF-A vehicle.
