New BMW 5 2023: price, data sheet, specifications

The seventh-generation BMW 5 Series turns five years old this October, but will remain on the market until an all-new 5 Series comes out in mid-2023. The next-gen BMW 5 Series was set to be the last of the internal combustion engine 5 Series and will see some big changes in all aspects.

Outside

The BMW 5 Series adopted a sporty design with the previous complete model change and is expected to be even sportier in the next. Designers should retain familiar features such as a short front overhang, a long hood, a set-back passenger compartment, a straight curb and the Hofmeister kink.

The front end could be beefier with a shark-like nose, thanks to a new kidney grille with an aggressively protruding top section and new, distinctively contoured headlights inspired by the G42 2 Series. The low roofline would flow smoothly into the rear, giving the car a familiar silhouette. The rear lights can be made slimmer and sharper, which increases the sportiness. The renderings in this story, the work of veteran illustrator Sugarchow (Instagram: sugardesign_1), portray these speculations perfectly.

Inner

The interior is said to be an evolution of the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Expect that BMW 5er 2023 will be borrowing some new gadgets from the Bimmers that were unveiled this year and are coming next year. The biggest change for tech-savvy internal customers will likely be the introduction of the new generation of BMW iDrive, running on BMW Operation System 8. The new system, unofficially called BMW iDrive 8, reduces buttons and switches by almost half. It features a new GUI that makes it more attractive. An enhanced language assistant with natural dialogue capability, user profiles (BMW ID), BMW Digital Key Plus with Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless technology, cloud-based BMW Maps and OTA updates are also part of the iDrive 8.

In addition to the less physical controls of the center console, the BMW Curved Display should contribute to the clean, minimalist design of the cockpit. It is a curved screen that merges the driver information display and the control display into one. These displays measure up to 12.3 and 14.9 inches respectively. For the first time in the BMW iX and then in the BMW i4, the BMW Curved Display will in future integrate the controls for the air conditioning system.

specifications

The 2023 BMW 5 Series will likely sit on an updated version of the CLAR platform. It will likely have a higher level of electrification. Expect more plug-in hybrid variants in the next-gen model. According to a report, the new BMW M550i could have an electrified 3.0-liter straight-six instead of a 4.4-liter V8. This first-ever M550i plug-in hybrid could offer around 525 hp combined power. At the top of the ladder you can expect a roughly 750 hp M5 plug-in hybrid with the upcoming BMW X8 M or the electrically assisted “S63” twin-turbo V8 of the BMW XM.

The next-generation 5 Series plug-in hybrid choices may include the current 520e, 530e and 530e xDrive models with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and 530e with a 3.0-litre petrol engine. The budget and efficiency-oriented plug-in hybrid variants should offer more value with increased range and reduced consumption and CO2 emissions.

The BMW Group has stated that it is trying to improve powertrains to offer an all-electric range of 100 km (62 miles) in its PHEVs. One of the plug-in hybrid variants of the 2023 BMW 5 Series should have an all-electric range of 100 km (62 miles), or at least close to it.

Of course, we are further developing the drive and, depending on the segment, will in future offer an electric range of up to 100 kilometers.

The 2023 BMW 5 Series will also be available as an electric vehicle. Possibly the first-ever BMW i5, the electric variant will compete against the Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQE and the (next) Audi A6 e-tron.
