Land Rover Range Rover TDV6 And SDV6 30DDTX Engine

The 30DDTX engine has been in production since 2009. It is put on cars of the Land Rover brand, which, as you know, is currently owned by the major Indian automaker Tata. In particular, 30DDTX can be seen under the hoods of some modifications of Range Rover Sport and Discovery jeeps.

30DDTX Engine Description and main advantages

30DDTX is a 3-liter diesel engine with a V6 configuration. The maximum power of this engine is (depending on the specific version) from 211 to 306 hp.

In general, the 30DDTX is similar in design to another V6 diesel engine, the 276DT (it was also installed on some Land Rover vehicles). So, for example, both of these engines use reliable Siemens fuel equipment, which can work without complaints for more than 200,000 km.

But, of course, there are significant differences between these power units. Let’s say the 276DT engine has electromagnetic injectors, and the 30DDTX has piezo injectors.

It should also be noted that earlier versions of the 30DDTX used two parallel turbines. In later versions, there is only one turbine, with variable geometry.

Disadvantages and problems of the 30DDTX engine

The 30DDTX engine may have a clogged EGR valve. The fact that this has already happened may be evidenced by the appearance of black smoke, unstable idling, increased fuel consumption. However, all this can be avoided if you remember to clean this valve regularly.

A clogged particulate filter is also possible here. In some cases, such a blockage can be eliminated by simple washing, however, as a rule, the car owner has no choice but to change the old filter to a new one.

Another typical malfunction of the 30DDTX engine is the crankshaft liners turning due to oil starvation. Moreover, if this problem is not dealt with at all, then in the end the crankshaft here can simply break in half.

Tuning prospects

The power of those 30DDTX engines that are supplied with cars for sale in US is artificially underestimated. And so chip tuning is fully justified here. In essence, this procedure will return the engine to its original factory settings.

But there is practically no information about adequate options for mechanical refinement of 30DDTX. And therefore, anyone who decides on such a refinement will act at their own peril and risk.
