2021 Subaru Outback Specs

Under the hood of the new 2021 Subaru Outback is a new horizontal four-cylinder Turbo Boxer (H4) engine, with direct injection, 2.4 liters and 16 valves. It achieves a maximum power of 260 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 375 Nm of torque between 2,400 and 4,800 rpm.

This engine is mated to a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission that simulates eight speeds, with a four-wheel drive system (Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive) that distributes torque between the two axles in a 60:40 ratio. Traction is optimized with the X-MODE system when riding on slippery surfaces, in conjunction with stability (VDC) and descent (HDC) control.

It has McPherson-type suspension at the front and rear double wishbone with a new subframe, coil springs and hollow stabilizer bars. The steering wheel is rack and pinion with electric assistance (EPAS).

The braking system consists of ventilated discs on all four wheels, with 12.4 inches at the front wheels and 11.8 inches at the rear. They are accompanied by an anti-lock system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution (EBD).

  1. A few fine points regarding the 2021 Outback:
The 2021 Subaru Outback is not “all new”. It is virtually identical to last year’s model (2020) The only difference I know of is the steering responsive headlights which is now standard on all trim levels.
The “new modular Subaru Global Platform (SGP)” was introduced on the Impreza models back in 2016. It was new to the Outback in the 2020 model year.
The “towering 9 inch ground clearance ” is actually only 8.7 inches.
At the rear are wide taillamps, not “headlamps”.
The 11.6 inch touch screen and dual zone HVAC system are not available on the Base Outback trim.
The “electric glasses” mentioned under interior Features needs further explanation.
The ” new horizontal four-cylinder Turbo Boxer (H4) engine” is not new. It was introduced on the Subaru Ascent back in 2018 and became available on the 2020 Outback XT models. No change for 2021.
