2021 Ferrari SF90 Spider Review Specs Price & Release Date

It was only a matter of time before the open version of the Ferrari SF90 Stradale arrived, and that time has come. Theoretically, Spider was not supposed to surprise us, but it is still impressive. In addition to the powerful drive, attention is also drawn to the striking design, which successfully reconciles a rigid, folding roof and an exposed engine.

After all, the centrally located engine behind the glass is one of the main attractions of supersports, which is usually deprived of customers choosing varieties without a roof. In the new SF90 Spider, however, it is different: the glass cover design has been intact, so that onlookers can still satisfy their curiosity and gaze at the drive, while owners satisfy their ego needs. Everyone wins.

This pleasant detail is just one of the many proofs of the genius of the design team led by Flavio Manzoni, who, like no other in the entire automotive industry, can combine eye-catching aesthetics with extreme functionality. In the case of the SF90, this aesthetic may be a bit less, but there is no doubt about the performance of this design.

Among the numerous driving modes, you can also find one in which driving takes place exclusively on a silent electric drive. However, the manufacturer maintains that the hybrid nature of the drive can also be recognized when using the maximum performance, as evidenced by the eSSC power distribution system, updated with the use of electric motors. According to the manufacturer, the effect of such a complex system is to continue to be intuitive and very satisfying driving.

As in the case of the closed version, the Spider version can also be enriched with the Assetto Fiorano package, which aims to increase the efficiency of the construction (a more flashy look with contrasting stripes on the body is of course a completely random addition). The kit includes a range of carbon fiber and titanium parts that shear off a weight of 21 kg, and tires and suspension developed from the experience gained from the brand’s GT racing program. If someone wants to take their hybrid roadster to the racetrack, definitely check this option in the configurator.

2021 SF90 Spider Specs

With or without a roof, the SF90 generates a total of 390 kg of downforce at 250 km / h. According to the developers, the roof cut also had no effect on lowering the rigidity of the chassis. The entire folding roof module is the same as in the other spiders of the brand with a centrally located engine. This means it is very light and quick to operate.

The top drop operation takes only 14 seconds. The aluminum structure alone is about 40 kg lighter than the typical counterpart known from series-produced convertibles and takes about half as much space (it requires a compartment with a capacity of about 100 liters, not 200). In total, the car weighs 1,670 kg, which is about 100 kg more than the closed version.

Nevertheless, the developers say that the performance of the SF90 has remained unchanged, and that as Ferrari’s flagship model, it is downright abstract. Spider has taken over from the Stradale version a plug-in driveline, which combines the V8 petrol brands known from other models (here with 780hp) with three electric motors to jointly generate the entire 1000hp. In combination with the four-wheel drive, this results in an acceleration to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds and to 200 km / h in 7 seconds.
