History of the 1NR-FKE engine
In 2014, the Atkinson cycle was introduced into the 1NR-FE model, thereby increasing the compression ratio and thermal efficiency. This model was one of the first ESTEC engines, which in Russian means: “Economy with high efficiency combustion.” This allowed to reduce fuel consumption and increase engine power.
This engine model was designated 1NR-FKE. Toyota has so far produced cars with this engine only for the domestic market. He is very whimsical to the quality of fuel.
On this engine model, the company installed a new intake manifold and changed the cooling system jacket, which made it possible to reduce and maintain the desired temperature in the combustion chamber, thus there was no loss of torque.
Also, for the first time, the cooling of the USR system was used, because of this, engine detonation occurs at low speeds, which makes it possible to correct this situation.
A VVTi clutch was installed on the exhaust camshaft. The Atkinson cycle used made it possible to better fill the combustion chamber with a combustible mixture and cool it.
The disadvantages of the Toyota 1NR-FKE engine are:
