1.5 BlueHDi Engines Problems And Reliability

The 1.5-liter Peugeot 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engines have been produced in France since 2017 and are installed in almost all modern models of the concern for the European market. The company developed these diesels separately and they differ from similar Ford 1.5 TDCi.

After the collapse of the diesel alliance between Ford and PSA, Peugeot-Citroen engineers continued to develop a new heavy-fuel engine in alliance with GM, and after buying Opel, on their own.

The design of the motor is quite typical: there is an aluminum cylinder block with cast-iron liners, an aluminum 16-valve DOHC cylinder head, a timing belt drive with a chain between the camshafts, the current Common Rail Bosch CP4.1 EVO fuel system with 2000 bar piezo injectors and a variable geometry turbine Honeywell GTD1244VZ in all versions except for the 75 hp diesel.

Absolutely all modifications of this engine are equipped with the proprietary BlueHDi cleaning system, which requires servicing in a specialized service and the use of AdBlue urea.

Disadvantages, Problems And Breakdowns Of The Internal Combustion Engine 1.5 Hdi EGR Valve Contamination

The only mass problem of these internal combustion engines is the rapid contamination of the USR valve, sometimes it needs cleaning every 40-50 thousand kilometers, or it simply jams.

Typical 1.5 BlueHdi Diesel Failures

As in all modern diesel engines, injectors are very demanding on fuel quality, and an expensive particulate filter is not the biggest resource here.

The manufacturer indicated an engine resource of 200,000 km, but they calmly go up to 300,000 km.
